Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

PORTLAND, ME - Brad Holt lasted just 2 1/3 innings and suffered his first loss as Portland got to the starter early and often in Binghamton's 9-4 loss at Hadlock Field Wednesday night. The game was called in the middle of the seventh inning after a 32-minute delay due to dense fog. Allan Dykstra paced the B-Mets offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 night including a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Binghamton (6-10) tallied the game's first run in the second inning. Carlos Guzman managed to reach on an error committed by Sea Dogs second baseman Oscar Tejeda. After Guzman stole second, starter Brock Huntzinger balked the runner to third. Raul Reyes drove Guzman in with a sac fly to left, giving the B-Mets a brief 1-0 lead.

Portland (7-9) answered swiftly in the last of the second. Will Middlebrooks singled off Holt with one out. Tejeda joined him on base with a single. Chih-Hsien Chiang followed and drove both men home with a two-run double to left, vaulting the Sea Dogs into the lead 2-1. Chiang scored a batter later when shortstop Jordany Valdespin mishandled a groundball off the bat of Jon Hee to advance Portland's lead to two.

The Sea Dogs dispelled Holt for good in the third. The righty walked the leadoff man before getting a flyout from Jorge Padron. With one out, he allowed the next three to reach on a pair of hits and a walk bringing in run and forcing him from the game. Ricky Brooks relieved Holt and allowed the next four hitters to reach as well, compounding the inning. When the dust had settled, Portland had chalked up six runs on five hits and led 9-1.

Holt was charged with seven runs - six earned - on six hits and four walks. Huntzinger fared better and picked up his second win of the season. The Sea Dogs right-hander allowed two unearned runs on four hits over five innings and racked up a season-high six strikeouts.

The B-Mets other run off Huntzinger came in the fifth. Dykstra dropped a bloop single into center and reached second when the shortstop, Hee, booted the ball. From there, Dykstra scored on a single from Valdespin, which trimmed the deficit to seven.

Jeremy Kehrt relieved Huntzinger and allowed a pair of runs in his second inning of work, the seventh. With one out, Kai Gronauer laced an infield single to third. Dykstra followed with his second double of the game. Valdespin kept the hit parade going with a double to center that glanced off the glove of Che-Hsuan Lin, which allowed Gronauer to score. Dykstra scored the B-Mets final run on a Lorenzo Scott sacrifice fly.

Valdespin output his second straight two-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI. Five of Binghamton's eight hits came from the bottom two slots in the order - Dykstra and Valdespin.

The B-Mets look to split the four-game set with a win in the finale Thursday at 12:00 PM. LHP Robert Carson (1-2, 1.69) will start opposite RHP Alex Wilson (2-1, 5.14) of Portland. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 11:45 AM on ESPN 1360 WYOS.
