MAINEiacs/SEA DOGS GAME DAY PRIMER

The Scene Shifts

Tonight is game three of the best-of-seven third round series between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Saint John Sea Dogs. Over the weekend, the two teams opened the series at Harbour Station, with the Sea Dogs jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Saint John won the series opener 5-4 in overtime on Friday, before taking a 4-1 decision in game two on Saturday. The next two games of the series will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee tonight and tomorrow.

Ten in a Row

Lewiston's Kirill Kabanov had a slow start to the postseason, as he was held scoreless in the club's first three games against Moncton. Since then, the 18-year old forward has been anything but quiet, recording 18 points (7g, 11a) in ten games. Kabanov's ten-game point streak is the longest active streak in the QMJHL, and is one game away from tying Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Frederick Roy for the longest streaks during the 2011 playoffs.

Making an Entrance

The Sea Dogs' Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault never got to experience postseason action until this year, and only appeared in one game during the first two rounds of the 2011 playoffs. The 19-year old was put into the Saint John crease late in game one, where he proceeded to make six saves in the team's comeback win. One night later, Corbeil-Theriault stopped 24 of 25 shots for his third straight postseason win.

Old Friends in a New Place

From 2005-08, Lewiston and Saint John were rivals in the Atlantic Division, where the two squads met 24 times in a three-year span. Since then, the two sides have played in just six head-to-head contests during the regular season, leading to their first ever postseason clash this year. The MAINEiacs have won 17 of the 30 all-time meetings during the regular season, including 11 of the 15 games played at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

How They Got Here

The two combatants in this series both saw their series lengths increase as they proceeded through the first two rounds of the playoffs. Number one seed Saint John swept through 16th place Cape Breton in round one, before a five-game win over 11th place Victoriaville in round two. Meanwhile, eighth place Lewiston eliminated ninth place Moncton in five games during the first round, before a six-game upset of second place Montreal in the second round.

The Final Four

The MAINEiacs and Sea Dogs are joined in the QMJHL's Final Four by the Quebec Remparts and Gatineau Olympiques, whose series is currently tied at one through two games. All four teams have participated in one President's Cup Final in the last five years, with Quebec appearing in 2006, Lewiston winning in 2007, Gatineau taking the crown in 2008, and Saint John reaching the final in 2010.

MAINEiacs to Honor Oldest Season Ticket Holder in CHL

The Lewiston MAINEiacs are proud to honor Ms. Doris Makas, the oldest season ticket holder in the Canadian Hockey League tonight.

Ms. Makas, age 100, will drop the ceremonial puck prior to Game 3 of the series between the MAINEiacs and Saint John Sea Dogs at 7:00 PM.

Ms. Makas has been a season ticket holder with the MAINEiacs since the inaugural season of the Lewiston franchise in 2003-04.

She is seen in the first row of Section 12 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, in the accompaniment of her daughter, Elaine night after night, and year after year.

The MAINEiacs are truly honored and privledged for the tremendous support of people like Ms. Makas and hundreds of other loyal season ticket holders just like her!

Please come early to tonight's game, and help us honor a true hockey matriarch!
