QMJHL Week in Review
April 25, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Over the weekend, the Lewiston MAINEiacs began their second ever semi-final series in the QMJHL Playoffs, as they took on the Saint John Sea Dogs in games one and two at Harbour Station. Unfortunately, the series didn't get off to the start Lewiston was looking for, as they dropped a 5-4 overtime game on Friday, before falling 4-1 on Saturday, as the Sea Dogs took a 2-0 series lead.
Friday night's series opener was a back-and-forth affair that saw Saint John jump out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Pierre Durepos and Steven Anthony. Matt Bissonnette countered those tallies by lighting the lamp in the final minute of the first period, giving the MAINEiacs some momentum into the intermission. Lewiston used that momentum, as Jess Tanguy and Kirill Kabanov put the visitors ahead 3-2 after two periods of play. After Tanguy's second goal of the game was waved off due to a high stick, Antoine Houde-Caron gave the MAINEiacs a two-goal lead with a shorthanded marker. Midway through the third period, the Sea Dogs made a goaltending change, replacing Jacob DeSerres with Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault. The move worked to perfection, as Nathan Beaulieu and Tomas Jurco tied the score in the third, before Stephen MacAulay netted the winning goal in the early stages of overtime.
In the second game on Saturday, the Sea Dogs once again got off to a fast start, as Michael Kirkpatrick started the scoring less than three minutes into the contest. Thanks to strong goaltending by Nicholas Champion, the score remained 1-0 until the midway mark of the second period. Unfortunately, that's where things fell apart for Lewiston, as Saint John banged in three straight power play goals, turning a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 advantage in a matter of three minutes. Stanislav Galiev, Kevin Gagne, and Jonathan Huberdeau were the goal scorers. Andrey Makarov took over in goal at that point, and was perfect on 14 shots, while fellow Russian Kirill Kabanov tallied the lone goal for the MAINEiacs.
Despite being down in the series, the MAINEiacs and Sea Dogs will now head to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Lewiston has won five straight playoff games at home, and has won 26 out of 40 games at home between the regular season and the playoffs in 2010-11.

Game two was another one-goal tilt that began with an early goal for Quebec, as Joel Champagne lit the lamp. With less than five minutes to play, the Remparts knotted the score on a goal by Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, before Ryan Bourque slid home the winner with 1:28 remaining in the third.
