Cedar Rapids, IA - The Kernels exploded for 11 runs on 15 hits to down the Timber Rattlers 11-4 on a cold and windy Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids. The Kernels jumped out with 3 runs in the top of the first. Later, the Kernels added five runs in the 7th for the victory. An RBI triple by Wes Hatton in the bottom of the 1st inning got the scoring started for the Kernels. The triple scored Drew Heid, making it 1-0. A RBI single by Travis Witherspoon scored Hatton, making it 2-0. David Harris later scored in the inning on a passed ball by Wisconsin catcher Tyler Roberts, making it 3-0.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Jimmy Harris only lasted 2/3 of an inning, allowing three runs on four hits. Kernel Daniel Tillman (1-0) picked up his first win. He pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked three. Justin La Tempa got the start for the Kernels. He went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked four. Erik Gregersen pitched one innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit. He struck out one and walked one.

Travis Witherspoon's 2nd inning home run made the score 4-0. Wisconsin battled back in the 3rd inning. A two run single by Cody Hawn cut the Kernels lead to 4-2. In the 5th inning a wild pitch by Erik Gregersen allowed Mike Walker to score, cutting the Kernels lead to 4-3. A RBI single in the 6th inning by Carlos George scored TJ Mittelstaedt and tied the game, 4-4.

The Kernels retook the lead for good in the 6th inning with a two run double by Drew Heid, scoring Mitch Blackburn and Travis Witherspoon. That made the score 6-4 Kernels. The Kernels added five more in the 7th inning, securing the victory. A single by Steven Irvine scored Carlos Ramirez, 7-4. An error by Wisconsin second baseman Nick Shaw on a ball hit by Heid allowed Irvin to score, 8-4.

A two run single by Hatton scored Blackburn and Jesus Campos, making the score 10-4 Kernels. The inning was capped off with a bases loaded walk drawn by Carlos Ramirez. Heid came home to score, making the score 11-4. The Kernels split the series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and split the home stand, 2-2. The Kernels travel to Beloit for a three game series, beginning Friday night.
