Stovall, Llanos Lead Cougars to Victory

APPLETON, Wisc. - Ryan Stovall went 3-for-4, homered and drove in four, and Alex Llanos went 2-for-5 with a home run as the Kane County Cougars rolled past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 9-5, on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. The Cougars earned a split in the season-starting series and now are set for their home opener Monday afternoon.
Llanos crushed a two-run homer in the third off Del Howell (0-1) to tie the game, 2-2, and the Cougars pulled ahead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Stovall. Then in the fourth Angel Franco bunted home Yowill Espinal to make it 4-2.
The Cougars broke open the game in the seventh with a four-run output. Franco smoked an RBI double to score Murray Watts, and Stovall launched a three-run shot to left for an 8-2 game. The Cougars added an unearned run in the eighth, and the Rattlers managed three in the ninth off Chas Byrne for the 9-5 final. Keaton Hayenga (1-0) pitched five solid innings for the Cougars, allowing two runs -- one earned -- over five innings and retiring the final 11 batters he faced in the win. Dusty Odenbach added two scoreless innings, as the Rattlers went hitless from the third inning through the seventh.
The Cougars (2-2) now return to Elfstrom Stadium for their 2011 home opener on Monday afternoon at 3 CT against the Quad Cities River Bandits (2-2). Crawford Simmons (NR) will make the start against Kevin Siegrist (NR) in the start of a four-game set. The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 2:45 p.m.
