Cody Bass Named B-Sens' 2010-11 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year

March 28, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL) Binghamton Senators

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators are proud to announce that Cody Bass has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Binghamton community during the 2010-11 season.

Bass has spent parts of five seasons with the B-Sens and has always been eager to be involved in the local community. However this year he was motivated to do even more.

Bass was devastated to learn of the passing of Ottawa Senators' assistant coach Luke Richard's daughter Daron, early in November. The 14 year-old died following a suicide attempt in the family home. Following Daron's memorial service, Bass enlisted the help of friends, fellow players and the Binghamton community to establish WINGS (When I Need Guidance and Support). His goal was to increase awareness of teen suicide and help raise money to further programs that work to prevent suicide in teens and young adults. For more information fans are encouraged to visit www.codybasswings.com or www.facebook.com/codybassWINGS.

Although WINGS has been the primary focus for Bass this season, he continues to participate in various community outreach opportunities. Bass has participated in your typical team community events such as taking time to read to students at the local elementary schools, celebrity bartending and participate in the B-Sens annual charity golf tournament, but has also gone above and beyond by contributing to various charitable auctions in the area and taking time to mentor local youths.

Bass is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2010-11 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
