Dayton Gems Weekend Preview

March 10, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Starting Thursday, the Dayton Gems will finish up a four game road trip by taking on Mississippi, Bossier-Shreveport and Evansville.

Last weekend, the Gems were on a hot streak as they won all three of their games over the weekend. However, the winning streak came to an end on Tuesday night as the Gems were defeated 5-4 by Bossier-Shreveport.

Now, the Gems will look to regain their winning momentum and carry it out through the rest of the season.

Mississippi

This will be the final time the Gems and RiverKings face each other this season. The Gems currently trail in the season series 1-2-0, but have a chance to even the series with a win on Thursday.

This will be the perfect opportunity for the Gems to tie the season series up. The RiverKings have dropped six of their last seven games.

Despite the losses, Mississippi has been scoring goals. Over the last seven games, the RiverKings have scored 19 times and never been shutout. However, their opponents have scored 31 goals over that same span of games.

Bossier-Shreveport

The Mudbugs have been on a bit of a hot streak lately. The team has won three of its last four games, including a 5-4 win over the Gems on Tuesday night.

Just like the series with Mississippi, this will be the final game between these two teams during the regular season. The series between these two teams is currently tied at 1-1-0. The winner of Friday's game will determine the winner of the season series.

For the Gems to win, they will have to stop Travis Clayton. The forward recorded a hat trick against the Gems on Tuesday, and proved to be the difference in Tuesday's 5-4 game.

Evansville

The final stop for the Gems during their road trip will be in Evansville on Saturday.

The last four match-ups between these two teams have proven to be some of the best games of the season for Gems fans to watch.

Each of the last four games between these two teams have gone beyond regulation. Dayton has won the past three games, but the IceMen defeated the Gems in a shootout back in January.

In all, the Gems have played in 11 games this season that have gone into extra frames. Six of those games have been against Evansville.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
