Binghamton Senators News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -The Binghamton Senators escaped the snowy Southern Tier yesterday en route to warmer weather in North Carolina. Although the trip is a vacation from the cold wintry weather, there was work to be done tonight the B-Sens continued a stretch of four games in five nights at the Time Warner Cable Arena against the rival Charlotte Checkers.

Justin Pogge earned the nod in goal for the Checkers, and ultimately first star honors, stopping 38 of 39 Binghamton shots to help lead his team to the narrow 2-1 victory.

Zac Dalpe struck first to give the hometown Checkers a 1-0 advantage with just 3:25 left on the clock in the opening period of play. Dalpe's goal was his 19th of the season, assisted by Chris Terry and Brett Bellmore.

The B-Sens hit the ice flying for the second period with a flurry of activity taking place in front of Pogge. Linemates Mike Hoffman and Ryan Keller worked away at the puck, poking at rebounds trying desperately to find the back of the net. The captain Keller would be successful, forcing the equalizer past the Checkers' netminder just 1:46 into the second stanza. The unassisted tally was Keller's 26th on the season.

Although the B-Sens outshot the Checkers in the second 19 to 9, Charlotte was able to sneak one more past Barry Brust to regain their lead. With just 26 seconds remaining in the period, Jon Matsumoto one-timed a shot past a screened Brust to put the Checkers back on top.

Neither team would generate any offense in the third period, as the Checkers held on for the win.

With the loss the B-Sens fall to 33-23-3-4 on the season and remain in fifth place overall in the East Division with 73 points.

The B-Sens are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Norfolk to take on the Admirals at 7:15 p.m. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
