March 7, 2011 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
CASA GRANDE, Arizona â€" FC Edmonton will kick off its preseason tonight in Arizona with a match against FC Dallas at the Francisco Grande Sports Complex outside of Phoenix, Arizona at 6 p.m. (Mountain Time).
This will be FC Edmonton's first preseason game and they will split up the squad so half will play the first 45 and the rest will play the second half.
"We're going to put two good squads out. One or two players might have to play a little longer because we have some minor injuries but we're expecting both teams to perform very well," said Assistant Coach Dave Randall. "We can't wait, it's going to be awesome and we're really looking forward to it."
Newly signed defender John Jonke will play his first game for the club and the 6'2", 192 lbs centre back is looking forward to getting into some game action.
"It's better getting around other people rather than knocking it around ourselves all the time," Jonke said. "It builds camaraderie. Instead of hitting each other all the time, we finally get to compete against someone else."
FC Edmonton will play five games in total over two weeks in Arizona before returning home.
