Chalmette's Andre Dorsey Named VooDoo Prep Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS (February 24, 2011) - The New Orleans VooDoo and WGNO named Chalmette High School (Chalmette, La.) track and field standout Andre Dorsey this week's "VooDoo Prep Athlete of the Week," announced the organizations on Thursday afternoon.

Dorsey gets this week's honor for placing second in the state's Division I indoor track meet in triple jump (46-5), and second in the high jump (6-8). He has made an eight inch improvement in the high jump from his junior to senior season.

At the state's Division I indoor track and field meet, Dorsey scored all 16 of Chalmette's points. The meet took place last weekend in Baton Rouge.

Dorsey will also throw the javelin outdoors, and is coached by Dave Koontz.

Dorsey will be featured tonight on the 6:30 p.m. sportscast on WGNO ABC 26, and the segment will be archived on the internet at www.abc26.com/voodoo.

Nomination-to-selection process on a weekly basis:

Wednesday: Nominations due at 10 a.m.; top three nominees announced at 12 p.m.; poll appears on WGNO website for public vote;

Thursday thru Sunday: Public vote continues; online voting closes at 5 p.m. and prep athlete of the week is then notified.

Thursday: New Orleans VooDoo and WGNO Prep Athlete of the Week is announced via www.aflvoodoo.com in a written release; WGNO interviews prep athlete of the week.

Thursday: Segment on prep athlete of the week appears in 6:30 p.m. sportscast. Segment is also archived at www.abc26.com/voodoo.
