Stampede Netminder Williams Commits to Minnesota State, Mankato

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that goaltender Stephon Williams has committed to play collegiate hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He becomes the 12th Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this season.
Williams has been one of the hottest goaltenders in the league the second half of the season, winning his last seven starts and posting a 1.70 GAA and a .939 save percentage during this stretch. He was named USHL Goaltender of the Week back-to-back weeks January 17 & 24.
The Fairbanks, Alaska native ranks 9th overall in the league with a 14-3-4 record, a 2.37 GAA and a .915 save percentage. His 14 wins are tied for third best in the USHL and his 3 losses are the fewest amongst any goalie in the league who has played 15 or more games.
The Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks are members of the Western Conference Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). They are currently 11-11-6 on the season and host Bemidji State this weekend in a Friday/Saturday series.
The Stampede return to action tonight when they travel to Lincoln to face the Stars in the first of two games this weekend. Game times are 7:05 PM each night. The Herd have won eight of their last 10 games and are in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 19-12-4 record.
