Rampage Drop 5-2 Decision to Wolves

January 16, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL) San Antonio Rampage

ROSEMONT, Ill. (January 16, 2011)- The San Antonio Rampage scored twice in the third period but were unable to rally against the Chicago Wolves falling 5-2 at Allstate Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Rampage own a 25-17-1-0 record good for 51 points.

Rampage right wing Jamie Bates recorded his first AHL multiple-point game collecting two assists on the night.

The Wolves took an early 1-0 lead when right wing Darren Haydar fired a shot from the right faceoff dot that cleared over Rampage goaltender Al Montoya's right shoulder and into the back of the net just 2:02 after the initial puck drop.

Chicago extended their lead to 2-0 in the closing five seconds of their first power-play opportunity. Montoya deflected Mike Siklenka's shot from the point into the slot where center Jared Ross was positioned to punch the rebound into the lower right corner at the 6:37 mark of the first period.

The Wolves claimed a 3-0 advantage 10:39 into the opening frame after center Ryan Garbutt snapped a shot from above the left faceoff circle that sent the puck to the high glove side of Montoya.

With 58 seconds remaining in the first period, former Rampage forward Tim Stapleton redirected Paul Postma's shot from the right point over the stick of Montoya to give Chicago a 4-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, the Rampage cut the deficit in half 4-2 scoring twice within the opening three minutes of the third period. Bates received the puck off a Wolves turnover and skated down the right wing boards where he sent a centering feed to Ryan Hollweg who fired a shot over the blocker of Chicago netminder Drew MacIntyre.

Just 1:14 later, Bates and Michael Stone assisted on Andrew Ebbett's power-play goal as he sent the puck over the left leg padding of MacIntyre on his shot from the right point at the 2:53 mark of the third period.

Chicago responded with a power-play goal 11:57 into the final frame as Stapleton set up Postma with a one-timer from the left point that went top shelf over Montoya to seal the Wolves victory at 5-2.

Montoya made 27 saves on 32 Wolves shot attempts while MacIntyre stopped 33 Rampage shots on 35 attempts.

The Rampage return to the ice tomorrow as they conclude a three-in-three series against the Rockford IceHogs at 3:05 p.m. at Rockford MetroCentre.
