K-Wings End Road Trip with Loss

December 7, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

North Charleston, SC- The Kalamazoo Wings ended their four-game road trip on a sour note, dropping a 4-3 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays.

For the first time in seven games, the K-Wings jumped ahead of their opponents. As a penalty to Pierre-Luc O'Brien expired, Darryl Lloyd found Justin Taylor (5th), who stepped around two defensemen along the left side of the Stingrays defensive zone and roofed a back-hander over goaltender Todd Ford.

Using a power-play midway into the period to even the contest at 1-1, Matt Scherer (5th) snuck between the circles and blasted a slap shot past Riley Gill.

Carrying over their momentum from the first period to the second, South Carolina pounced for two goals in the first seven minutes of the period. Dylan Yeo (1st) gave the Stingrays the lead 1:05 into the stanza.

Battling for the puck at the side of the K-Wings net, the Stingrays extended their advantage to two goals with a marker from Justin Milo (2nd).

With 39.6 seconds remaining in the second, Kalamazoo cut the deficit to a single-goal when a goal from Brady Leisenring (4th) crossed the goal line just before the net was dislodged.

Digging out of their two-goal hole, Andrew Fournier banged in an equalizer 1:31 into the third period. Assisting on the goal was Steven Tarasuk and Trent Daavettila, who extended his point streak to nine games, one shy of tying the K-Wings season-high held by Kory Karlander.

South Carolina regained the lead for good minutes later, as Scherer (7th) connected on his second-goal of the night, this time eventual game-winner on the power-play.

Kalamazoo finished the contest 0-for-2 on the power-play, while South Carolina went 2-for-7 with a man-advantage.
