Wichita Native and Former NY Jet Joins Wild

The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) continued to build a very formidable defense on Wednesday with the signing of Rashad Washington to a contract for the 2011 season. Washington is a Wichita native and played collegiately at Kansas State. Washington is the seventh defensive player from a Division I college to sign with the Wild for 2011.

From 2004 to 2007 Washington played in 48 games at strong safety for the NY Jets. He compiled 64.5 tackles in his career with his career high coming in 2006 when he played in all 16 games and recorded 28.5 tackles. Washington was drafted by the Jets in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Washington's first season at Kansas State was in 2000. He appeared in 11 games for the Wildcats on special teams and running back. Washington rushed for a total of 106 yards and a touchdown. Washington also appeared in nine games for the Wildcat basketball team during the 2000-01 season. Washington switched to defense in 2001 and appeared in ten games recording seven tackles. In 2002, Washington broke into the starting line-up recording 78 tackles and two interceptions.

Washington was named second team All-Big 12 in 2003 as the Wildcats won the Big 12 Championship. Washington compiled 110 tackles, two interceptions, and four blocked kicks during the campaign.

Washington attended Southeast High School in Wichita and was a star football and basketball player. He was a first team all-state selection in both sports as a Senior during the 1998-99 school year. Washington ran for 1,327 yards and 23 TD's in 1998. He led the Buffaloes to the state 6A basketball championship and a 23-2 record in 1999 and finished his career with 1,373 points.
