Frazee, Devils Shut Out Americans

November 20, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Albany Devils made their six-game losing streak an afterthought, winning their second straight with a 4-0 victory at Rochester Saturday night. Jeff Frazee, who helped the Devils to a shootout win the night before at Syracuse, made 34 stops for his sixth career shutout. Albany, which received a pair of goals from Michael Swift, improves to 8-9-0-0 on the year and is now 6-2-0-0 on the road. Rochester falls to 8-10-1-0 with just one home victory.

After the Devils established a two goal lead, Frazee kept the Americans scoreless, helping to kill off a two minute, 5-on-3 power play. Frazee denied seven Amerks shots, including a sprawling save on the right doorstep with 10 seconds remaining on the two man advantage.

Rochester kept pressuring immediately after the game returned to 5-on-5. Paul Baier had a wide-open try in front, but Frazee got his pad on it, keeping the red light dim.

Frazee made nine stops in the first, 19 in the second and six in the third in his 101 career AHL contest. He is now 6-5-0-0 on the season and is only two wins away from registering his 50th career victory.

Still reeling from a 4-3 shootout win Friday night, the Devils got on the board early thanks to a slap shot from the point off the stick of Mark Fayne. An offensive-zone faceoff began the play, which led to assists by Rob Davison and Matt Anderson. The goal, which beat Rochester goalie Tyler Plante between the legs, was the first of Fayne's professional career.

Another blast from the blue line led to a Devils' 2-0 lead seconds before the first intermission. Patrick Davis skated along the left half wall and fed to Harry Young at the point. His try was denied, but Nick Palmieri was in front to clean up the rebound with 50.9 ticks left for his fourth goal of the season.

Swift made it 3-0 with a shorthanded marker - the Devils' third of the season - at 14:55 of the second period. Davis chipped the puck to Davison, who found Swift on a desperation clear. Swift went five hole for his second goal of the season.

He capped the scoring with a goal at 5:01 on a 5-on-3 power play in the third. Tyler Eckford and Adam Henrique had the assists.

The Amerks' power play entered the game ranked second in the league, but was blanked on all six chances. It was the first time the Devils hadn't allowed a power-play goal in nine games.

The road trip continues for the Devils, who head to first-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 7:05 p.m.
