(Green Bay, WI) -) Green Bay Gamblers forward Austin Czarnik tallied a pair of goals to lead United States Junior Select Team to a 6-4 win over Canada East in the gold medal game of the World Junior "A" Challenge in Penticton, British Columbia. For his efforts, Czarnik was named the Player of the Game.
Also on the gold medal winning U.S. Junior Select Team was Gamblers forward Robert Francis and defenseman Aaron Harstad.
The U.S. Junior Select Team was made up of 22 players from the USHL and led by a trio of USHL coaches (P.K. O'Handley (Waterloo), Luke Strand (Sioux City) and Justin Lyle (Indiana)).
Team USA finished with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record on their way to gold. Including a pre-tournament exhibition game, the U.S. squad defeated teams from Canada four times on Canadian soil.
In addition to the U.S., five teams competed in the World Junior A Challenge; Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Canada East, and Canada West.
