Royals Ready to Take to the Streets for Tenth Anniversary Block Party

October 18, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's plans for the Tenth Anniversary Home Opening Weekend this Saturday (October 23) and Sunday (October 24) in and around the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The festivities kick off with the Royals and Rock Hits Y102 Tenth Anniversary Celebration Block Party on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 -5:30 pm on Penn Street-directly in front of the northern side of the Sovereign Center-which will be blocked off to traffic in order to allow for the afternoon's activities. You'll want to park your vehicle in the Reading Parking Authority garages around the Sovereign Center, anyway, because parking costs just $1.00 that day courtesy of the RPA.

The Tenth Anniversary Celebration Block Party, which will be hosted by Rock Hits Y102's Jackie Hoffman, will feature three hot, local bands (Junior's Farm Classic Rock, Hard Candy, and The Third Degree) beginning at 2:00 pm and continuing throughout the celebration. There will be food and beverages available for purchase from vendors such as the Pig Pit, Royal Ice, Belly Busters, The Cabana and SAVOR Reading. There will also be plenty of fun for the kids with a FREE moon bounce and obstacle course courtesy of Ozzy's Family Fun Center. And, of course, it wouldn't be a Royals' celebration without giveaways, which will be covered by 1-800-GOT JUNK, the sponsor of that night's fireworks extravaganza inside the Sovereign Center.

Please also note that, if by some chance, the Philadelphia Phillies play Game Six of the National League Championship Series against the San Francisco Giants at 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, The Corner Presented by Classic Harley Davidson and Coors Light (located at ice-level in the northeast corner of the Sovereign Center) will be open to Royals' fans at 3:30 pm, who would like to watch a little baseball before the Royals' game.

After the Block Party on Penn Street, the fun will shift to inside the Sovereign Center. Gates for Saturday night's ECHL match-up between the Royals and the arch-rival Elmira Jackals will open up at 5:50 pm for season ticket holders and 6:05 for the general public. You'll want to get inside early, as the first 5,000 fans receive a souvenir 32 ounce Tenth Anniversary refillable cup courtesy of Auto Spa of Wyomissing and SAVOR Reading. Fans can bring that cup back to the Sovereign Center during Royals games all season long and get a special "refill price" on their favorite soda. Fans will also want to get settled in their seats early to be ready for the Tenth Anniversary FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA presented by 1-800 GOT JUNK as a part of the ceremonies leading up to the opening face-off for Saturday night's game (7:05 pm).

The Season Opening Weekend Celebration doesn't stop there, however. After Saturday night's showdown between the Royals and the Jackals, those two teams will get a chance to exact their revenge on one-another on Sunday afternoon (5:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center. The first 5,000 in attendance for that game get one of the all-time favorite giveaways in Royals hockey history-the 2010-11 magnetic schedule courtesy of Deibler Dental. After Sunday's game, everyone's invited to participate in the Post-Game Skate with the Players presented by Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex.

The Royals host the team's Tenth Anniversary home opener on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm), when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center. Also, be sure to catch all of the team's away games this year on Royals TV exclusively on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Season tickets for the Royals' 2010-11 season are currently available. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com .
