Arizona Sundogs News Release


The Arizona Sundogs (0-0-0) closed out its preseason schedule this weekend with a pair of exhibition games against the defending Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Champion Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Sundogs are now 5-3-1 all-time in preseason games.

Arizona dropped the first of two contests against the Rush, 4-2, on Saturday night. Kevin Jarman and Joel Irving collected goals for the Sundogs while Doug Groenestege turned aside 23 of 27 shots in the loss. Arizona finished 1-for-6 with the man advantage while Rapid City converted once on three power play opportunities.

On Sunday, rookie goaltender stopped 45 of 46 shots, including 23 in the third period, as the Sundogs topped the Rush, 2-1. Defenseman Chris Kane assisted on both Arizona tallies, including the eventual game-winner late in the second period. Jason Visser and Steve Kaye scored for Arizona. The Sundogs were held scoreless on four power play chances while Rapid City finished 1-for-8 with the man advantage.

Arizona opens the 2010-11 regular season on Friday, Oct. 15 at 6:05pm (Arizona time) against the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Sundogs Storylines:

- The Sundogs training camp roster sits at 25 players. Goaltender Levente Szuper has yet to report and is awaiting immigration approval. The CHL deadline for finalized regular season rosters is 1:00pm (Arizona time) on Thursday, Oct. 14.

- Mark Kolanos finished the 2010 preseason with two points, assisting on Joel Irving's third-period goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss and Kevin Jarman's first-period go-ahead goal in Sunday's 2-1 win.

- Torren Delforte also collected a pair of assists during the preseason, assisting on Irving's power-play goal in Saturday's loss and Steve Kaye's eventual game-winner in the second period of Sunday's win.

- Defenseman Chris Kane collected assists on each of the Sundogs' two goals in Sunday's win.

- Arizona's penalty kill finished the preseason at 81.82%, allowing two goals on 11 Rapid City man advantage chances while the power play clicked at just 10%, converting once on 10 chances. The Sundogs also allowed one shorthanded goal in Saturday's loss to the Rush.

- Rookie goaltender Bobby Jarosz finished the preseason with the highest save percentage (.978) among goaltenders that played at least 60 minutes. Jarosz made a league preseason high 45 saves on 46 shots, including 23 in the third period, in Sunday's win.

- Arizona finished the preseason with 37 total penalty minutes. Only Mississippi (25) and Laredo (29) finished with less in the Berry Conference.
