Joe Dipenta Named 12th Captain in Syracuse Crunch History

Syracuse, NY (October 8, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have named defenseman Joe DiPena as their team captain for the 2010-11 season. In addition, the club also announced that defenseman Brett Festerling and left wing Josh Green have been named alternate captains.DiPenta, 31, becomes the twelfth full-time captain in franchise history (Dane Jackson, 1994-95, Mark Wotton, 1995-99, Brian Bonin, 1999-00, Mike Gaul, 2000-01, Sean Pronger, 2001-02, David Ling 2002-03, Darrell Scoville, 2003-04, Jamie Pushor, 2004-07, Zenon Konopka 2007-08, Dan Smith 2008-09 and Derek MacKenzie 2009-10).
DiPenta is a veteran of 655 professional games, including 434 combined AHL contests with Philadelphia, Chicago, Manitoba and Portland since the 2000-01 season, collecting 60 points (11g, 49a) and 494 penalty minutes. In addition, DiPenta has skated in 174 NHL games with Atlanta and the Ducks, recording 23 points (6g, 17a) and 110 penalty minutes. A native of Barrie, Ontario, DiPenta was a member of Anaheim's 2006-07 Stanley Cup championship. He was originally selected by Florida in the third round, 61st overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft. He was signed by the Crunch as a free agent on August 26, 2010.
Festerling, 24, has appeared in 136 combined AHL games with Portland, Iowa and San Antonio since 2007-08, collecting 26 points (3g, 23a) and 33 penalty minutes. In addition, he has skated in 82 NHL games, all with Anaheim, recording eight assists and 33 penalty minutes. A native of Prince George, British Columbia, Festerling was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on September 14, 2005.
Green, 33, has appeared in 693 professional games since the 1999-00 season, including 266 combined AHL contests with Fredericton, Springfield, Lowell (Lock Monsters), Hamilton Manitoba and Iowa, earning 181 points (83g, 98a) and 267 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 322 career NHL games with Los Angeles, NY Islanders, Edmonton, NY Rangers, Washington, Calgary and Anaheim, tallying 74 points (35g, 39a) and 193 penalty minutes. A native of Camrose, Alberta, Green was originally selected by Los Angeles in the second round, 30th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 12, 2010.
The Crunch open their home schedule on Saturday, October 9 vs. Lake Erie.
