Admirals Announce Opening Night Roster

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois today announced the Admirals' opening night roster for the 2010-11 season. The Admirals drop the puck on the season tomorrow night in Binghamton, New York, as they face off against the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 p.m.
The Admirals have 25 players on their roster with fourteen forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders. A complete roster is attached to this press release.
Here are some highlights from the opening night roster:
- There are 12 players returning from the 2009-10 Admirals squad: Kevin Quick, Ty Wishart, Blair Jones, Paul Szczechura, Juraj Simek, Scott Jackson, Tim Marks, Mitch Fritz, Matt Fornataro, Vladimir Mihalik, Jaroslav Janus and Dustin Tokarski.
- In addition to the 12 players returning from 2009-10, Chris Durno also has previous experience with the Admirals having played for the 2006-07 Norfolk squad.
- There are 12 players who have never laced up the skates for Norfolk.
- There are five rookies (by AHL standards): Mark Barberio, Alex Hutchings, Radko Gudas, Tim Marks and Jaroslav Janus.
- Of the five rookies, Barberio, Hutchings and Gudas have never played a professional game in North America.
- There are seven players with at least 20 games of NHL experience: Marc-Antoine Pouliot (176), Paul Szczechura (83), Mathieu Roy (61), James Wright (48), Chris Durno (43), Blair Jones (38) and Mitch Fritz (20).
- There are seven players with at least 200 games of AHL experience: Mitch Fritz (343), Chris Durno (293), Blair Jones (263), Mathieu Roy (256), Mike Angelidis (235), Juraj Simek (204) and Vladimir Mihalik (204).
Norfolk's regular season opens on Saturday in Binghamton, New York, as the Admirals square off against the Senators at 7:05 p.m. The Admirals' regular season home opener will take place on Friday, October 15, as the Worcester Sharks invade Scope at 7:30 p.m.
The Admirals will hold their first Military Appreciation Night of the 2010-11 season during the first home game of the season on Friday, October 15. Red Level Tickets (normally $14) will be available for just $9 at the Norfolk Scope Box Office for all active or retired military, their dependents and reservists with valid military identification.
