Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators are proud to announce the Week 1 class of High School Players of the Week: Phil Steinmetz, Darryl Monroe, and Rickey Gordon.

Offensive Player of the Week - Phil Steinmetz, QB - St. Cloud HS:

Steinmetz and the St. Cloud Bulldogs (1-0) had a tough test to start the season, opening at home against local powerhouse Osceola (0-1). That didn't seem to bother Bulldogs QB Phil Steinmetz as he led his squad up and down the field, passing for 229 yards and two touchdowns as well as 88 yards rushing. The game ended as an overtime struggle with Steinmetz rushing for the winning touchdown, giving the Bulldogs the 41-35 victory.

Honorable Mention: Jeff Driskel, QB - Hagerty HS

Defensive Player of the Week - Darryl Monroe, LB - Dr. Phillips HS:

#1 ranked Dr. Phillips (1-0) is filled with defensive talent, but in their 48-7 domination of state-ranked Edgewater (0-1), no one shined more than LB Darryl Monroe. Monroe intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, and added a punishing tackle that took an Edgewater player's helmet off.

Honorable Mention: LaQuentin Smith, DB - Dr. Phillips HS

Ironman Player of the Week - Rickey Gordon, RB/DB - Colonial HS:

Colonial (1-0) has had a rough go of things the past few seasons, but two-way player Rickey Gordon got the Grenadiers off to a great start in their 41-0 shutout of Cypress Creek (0-1). On the offensive side of the ball, Gordon ran for two touchdowns. On defense, he added an interception in the third quarter as part of a unit that held the Bears to just 49 yards of total offense.

Honorable Mention: Christian Acevedo, WR/KR - Harmony HS

All three players will be eligible for the season awards to be announced following the state championship games.
