Mahoney Placed on DL; Toussen Transferred to Charleston

September 3, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL) Charleston RiverDogs

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Thursday that Charleston RiverDogs infielder Kevin Mahoney has been placed on the DL and Jose Toussen has been promoted from the GCL Yankees to the RiverDogs.

Mahoney, a Miller Place, N.Y. native, has appeared in 26 games with the RiverDogs since joining the club on Aug. 3, including 12 starts at second base and 14 at third. The former Canisius College standout is batting .298 on the year, with 15 runs, eight doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Prior to coming to Charleston, Mahoney appeared in 38 games with the Staten Island Yankees, six with the Trenton Thunder and three with the Tampa Yankees.

Toussen, an El Ceybo, Dominican Republic native, has appeared in 45 games with the GCL Yankees, including a combined 24 starts in the outfield, 10 at second base, five at shortstop, three as DH and one appearance as a pinch runner. The 20-year-old prospect posted a .277 batting average in his time in the Gulf Coast League, with 24 runs, four doubles, one home run, 15 RBI and nine stolen bases.
