
Asheville's Clark, Mesa Named to Year-End SAL All-Star Team

Asheville Tourists first baseman Jared Clark and outfielder Eliezer Mesa have been named to the South Atlantic League's year-end All-Star team, in an announcement made by SAL president Eric Krupa on Wednesday afternoon.
Clark, who leads the Tourists with 82 RBIs but has missed the last week due to a hamate injury, leads the SAL with 24 home runs. He also ranks second with 76 walks and a .541 slugging percentage while placing seventh on the circuit with a .299 batting average. Mesa is sixth on the loop with a .302 batting average. He paces Asheville with 81 runs scored while adding 28 stolen bases and 41 RBIs.
The rest of the SAL all-star team includes: Lakewood manager Mark Parent; Savannah coach Marc Valdes; Augusta pitcher Jorge Bucardo and third baseman Chris Dominguez; Savannah pticher James Fuller; Lakewood catcher Sebastian Valle and shortstop Jonathan Villar; Lexington second baseman Jose Altuve and outfielder J.D. Martinez; Charleston infielder Robert Lyerly; Greenville outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker; and Hagerstown outfielder Destin Hood and designated hitter Justin Bloxom. Fuller was tabbed as the league's Most Outstanding Pitcher, Martinez was the circuit's Most Valuable Player, and Lakewood first baseman Jonathan Singleton was deemed the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect.
The Southern Division pennant race continues at McCormick Field on Wednesday evening, September 1, at 7:05 p.m. when the Tourists play their final homestand of the regular season against Hickory.
