Chiefs Win 6-4, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

August 31, 2010 - International League (IL) Syracuse Chiefs

Buffalo, N.Y - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals earned a 6-4 come from behind victory of the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field. Erik Arnesen pitched five innings for his 6th win of the year and Syracuse is guaranteed a winning season for the second straight year. With six games to play, the Chiefs trail Wild Card leader Louisville by four games.

Buffalo (72-65) took a first inning lead on a three run home run from Nick Evans, his sixth of the year, off of Syracuse starter Erik Arnesen. The Chiefs answered back however in the second with RBI from Carlos Maldonado and Arnesen to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Syracuse (72-65) continued to allow Buffalo to score in the third when former Norfolk Tide Justin Turner belted a solo homer to left and gave the Bisons a 4-3 lead.

The Chiefs fought back in the middle innings and came within one on an RBI single from Danny Espinosa which made it 4-3 in favor of Buffalo. In the sixth, back to back RBI from Seth Bynum and Maldonado sent Syracuse from a one run deficit to a one-run lead at 5-4.

In the ninth Pete Orr, into the game in the 8th on a double switch, pushed to the lead to two with an RBI double and made it 6-4. Adam Carr finished the game off in the ninth by striking out two batters and facing just four while notching his seventh save in a Chiefs uniform.

Arnesen improves to 6-7 while Bisons starter Fernando Nieve falls to 2-1.

On Wednesday night Syracuse will begin the first of four games against Rochester. Rigty Yunesky Maya (0-1,0.00) is scheduled to start for the Chiefs against righthander Anthony Swarzak (5-10, 6.08) for the Red Wings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
