THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... return home this evening to begin a three-game series against the Inland Empire 66ers at Municipal Stadium. The Giants dropped three out of four games to the host Stockton Ports in their last series. In yesterday's contest, the Ports scored six times in the bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by Grant Green's go- ahead three-run homer, to rally for a 9-5 victory. Edwin Quirarte suffered the loss out of the San Jose bullpen after surrendering five runs (all earned) on five hits over just 2/3 of an inning. Wendell Fairley hit his first home run of the season for the Giants in the defeat - a three-run blast in the top of the sixth inning.

Media Coverage... Thursday's series finale will be televised live on Comcast Hometown Network, Channel 104 with Joe Ritzo and Rocky Koplik handling the play-by-play and color commentary duties respectively. The entire series can also be heard live on www.sjgiants.com.

Final Homestand... Tonight marks the beginning of San Jose's final homestand of the regular season. After hosting Inland Empire for three games, the Giants will play the Visalia Rawhide in a four-game set (September 3-6). San Jose has struggled to a 10-18 record at home in the second half and are under .500 overall at Municipal Stadium (31-32). The Giants finished with a 40-30 mark away from home this season - the top road record in the North Division.

Winning Season... San Jose's victory two nights ago at Stockton guaranteed the Giants will finish the 2010 season with a winning record. It marks the seventh consecutive year (2004-2010) that San Jose will post a winning record. The last Giants club to finish below .500 was the 2003 team (58-82).

San Jose Leads Division By One Game... The Giants (71-62) possess a one- game lead over the Stockton Ports (70-63) and Visalia Rawhide (70-63) for the top overall record in the North Division with seven games remaining in the regular season. Home field advantage (hosting Game Five) in the North Division Series will be awarded to the team with the best overall record that's won a half. San Jose owns the tiebreaker with Stockton as the Giants hold the edge in the season series (14-12) versus the Ports.

Peguero Extends Hitting Streak To 13 Games... Outfielder Francisco Peguero finished 1-for-4 yesterday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 13 games. Peguero owns a .345 average (20-for-58) during the current hit streak. Brandon Belt (18 games, April 11-30) has the longest Giants hitting streak this season.

Flores Ranks Third In Batting Average... Infielder Jose Flores is currently third in the California League with a .333 batting average. He is 12 points behind High Desert's Kyle Seager (.345) for the league lead.

Stoffel's Saves... Relief pitcher Jason Stoffel has converted his last 11 save opportunities dating back to July 7. In 19 relief appearances during that span, Stoffel possesses a 2.45 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings. His 23 saves this season are fifth in the California League and tops in the San Francisco Giants farm system.

Peguero, Surkamp Named To Postseason All-Star Team... Outfielder Francisco Peguero and starting pitcher Eric Surkamp were named to the California League Postseason All-Star team last Friday. Peguero, one of three outfielders selected to the team, is seventh in the league in batting average (.317), first in triples (15) and third in stolen bases (38). Peguero is batting .353 since the All-Star break. Surkamp, who hasn't pitched since July 18 due to a hip injury and is out for the remainder of the season, compiled a 4-2 record with a 3.11 ERA in 17 starts with the Giants. Surkamp was ranked among the league leaders in ERA and strikeouts prior to his injury. The left-hander struck out 108 compared to just 22 walks over 101 1/3 innings this season while holding the opposition to a .218 batting average. Surkamp is one of four pitchers on the postseason All-Star team.

San Jose Wins League Record Sixth Consecutive First Half Title... The San Jose Giants won their California League record sixth consecutive first half North Division title this season. The Giants finished the first half with a 45-25 mark - eight games ahead of both the Modesto Nuts (37-33) and Visalia Rawhide (37-33). By virtue of winning the first half, San Jose secures a berth in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The Giants have won three league championships (2005, 2007, 2009) in the last five seasons and will be attempting to win back-to-back titles for the first time in franchise history this September. San Jose will open the playoffs on Saturday, September 11 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series. The previous league record for consecutive first half division titles was three (Visalia).

Inland Empire 66ers... The Inland Empire 66ers, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, enter tonight's action with an overall record of 49-84 - the worst mark in the California League. Inland Empire is also in last place in the second half South Division at 23-40. The 66ers dropped two out of three games to the Giants in their only previous meeting this season (July 30-August 1). Left-hander Cody White (0-1, 6.97 ERA) is slated to make the start on the mound tonight.
