Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs have made a trade, acquiring forward Cole Hawes from the Shawinigan Cataractes, in exchange for a third round draft pick in 2011 (previously acquired from Quebec), as well as a fifth round pick in 2012.

Cole Hawes was born on February 23, 1993 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At 17 years old, the forward is 5'10" and 170 lbs. In the summer of 2009, Hawes was selected with the 62nd overall pick in the QMJHL Entry Draft by the Shawinigan Cataractes. During the 2009-10 season, Hawes suited up in seven games with Shawinigan, picking up two penalty minutes. One year earlier, he was a member of the Dartmouth Midget Ice Dawgs, where he had 21 goals and six assists in 35 regular season games.

"Cole is a committed player who competes very hard - exactly the kind of kid you want, and makes guys around him compete also," said MAINEiacs General Manager Roger Shannon. "As a 17-year old, he gives one more building block needed going forward," he said.

The addition of Hawes brings the current roster to 40 players. Earlier in the weekend, Cole McDonald and Sotiris Athanasopoulos left the team to protect their NCAA eligibility, while Jay Kourkoulis has left the team for medical reasons.

The 2010-11 regular season begins on September 10 & 11, as the MAINEiacs host former coach Clem Jodoin and the Rimouski Oceanic for a pair of games Friday and Saturday. With Rimouski and Lewiston projected to battle for the top of the TELUS East Division, this is a rivalry that should not be missed! Single game tickets go on sale soon, watch an upcoming release!

Join in the fun, as the Lewiston MAINEiacs have now sold over 1,000 season ticket packages for the upcoming season! For additional ticket information, contact the Androscoggin Bank Colisee at (207)-783-2009.
