Lopez's Walk Off Homer Is The Difference As Crabs Beat York In Extras

July 31, 2010 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

Catcher Christian Lopez crushed a walk off home run to break a scoreless tie in the 10th inning and give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 win over the York Revolution before a crowd of 4,816 Saturday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. Lopez went 3-for-4 and provided a third of the overall offense. Southern Maryland and York combined for just nine hits. Revolution catcher John Pachot was the only other player with multiple hits, as he went 2-for-4. RHP Connor Robertson allowed just three hits in 5.1 innings of work. Fellow righty Jarod Plummer pitched six scoreless, and faced the minimum number of batters through five innings. The Blue Crabs threatened in the sixth, as Lopez had a leadoff double and centerfielder Jeremy Owens was hit by a pitch to put two on with nobody out. Designated hitter Daisuke Yoshida then dropped a sac bunt down the third base line, advancing Lopez to third and Owens to second. Unfortunately for the Crabs, Plummer retired the next two batters to keep the game scoreless. With one out and nobody on in the bottom of the tenth, Lopez pulled a 2-2 pitch from York RHP Sean Stidfole into deep leftfield for a game-winning solo homer. It was his sixth of the year, and second walk off hit this season. He also smacked a 10th inning RBI single on July 14 to give the Crabs a 4-3 win against the Lancaster Barnstormers. LHP Bryan Dumesnil (1-1) came out of the bullpen in the eighth and pitched 2.1 innings of relief to earn the win. Stidfole dropped to 2-2 with the loss. At 57-36, the first place Blue Crabs maintain the best overall record in the Atlantic League, and have the circuit's best second half record at 16-7. For the second time this season, Southern Maryland is a season-high 21 games over .500 overall.
