K.C. Royals Call up Former Chukar

July 29, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Kansas City Royals filled an open roster spot by promoting right-handed pitcher Greg Holland. Holland pitched for the Idaho Falls Chukars in 2007, his first professional season. This is the first trip to the Major Leagues for Holland, who was playing with Triple-A Omaha.

At the start of the 2010 season, Greg Holland returned to Omaha, where he had finished the 2009 season. In 36 relief appearance with the Omaha Royals in 2010 Holland has a 3-3 record, a 3.81 ERA, and 10 saves. Over 56 and two thirds innings Holland has 60 strikeouts and has allowed only 40 hits. This past Monday, July 26, Holland was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week.

While with the Chukars in 2007, Greg Holland made his professional debut and stayed with Idaho Falls for the entire summer, going on to be named the team's Pitcher of the Year. Holland went 6-1 and had six saves in 22 relief appearances, which were all top marks in the Pioneer League that year. Holland helped lead the Chukars to the postseason, finishing with a 3.48 ERA and had 37 strikeouts in 33 and two thirds innings.

In addition to the honors earned with Idaho Falls and Omaha, Greg Holland was named a 2009 Mid-Season All-Star in the Texas League (Double-A).

Greg Holland becomes the third current member of the Kansas City Royals to have played for the Idaho Falls Chukars. First baseman Billy Butler and right-handed relief pitcher Blake Wood both played for the Chukars at the start of their careers in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

The roster spot in Kansas City became available when the Royals traded Scott Podsednik to the Los Angeles Dodgers for two minor league prospects.
