SALT LAKE CITY (Wednesday, July 21, 2010) - The University of Utah Athletics Department and Utah Sports Properties today named ESPN 700 Sports Radio personality Bill Riley as the new play-by-play announcer for the Utah football and men's basketball teams.

In addition to calling the game action, Riley will host the pre-game and post-game shows for all Utah football and men's basketball games. He will also host the Kyle Whittingham and Jim Boylen Coach's Show each week during the season. Riley's tenure as the "Voice of the Utes" will start on Thursday, Sept. 2, when the University of Utah will begin its final season as a member of the Mountain West Conference by welcoming the University of Pittsburgh to Rice-Eccles Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. MT kickoff.

Riley, the play-by-play voice for Real Salt Lake since the Major League Soccer club's 2005 inception, will continue in that role. He will also continue to host his 2-6 p.m. weekday show on ESPN 700, the "Home of the Utes."

"I am thrilled beyond belief at the opportunity to be the voice of the University of Utah," Riley said. "It truly is a dream job for me and the highlight of my career. I look forward to helping grow the Utah brand throughout the state and the region."

Riley has been a fixture on local and regional radio and television outlets for nearly a decade, beginning his time in Salt Lake City in 2001 as a sports talk host at KSL Radio before moving to KALL/ESPN 700. In addition to his television work in past seasons for Real Salt Lake, Riley has also broadcast numerous games for both the Mountain and Altitude television networks. Prior to his time in Utah, the University of Kansas graduate hosted pregame and postgame shows for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, and was also a play-by-play announcer for Jacksonville University and the Sunshine Network.

ESPN 700-formerly known as KALL 700 Sports Radio-has been the radio home to University of Utah athletics since 1951. ESPN 700, which has a 50,000-watt daytime signal, is one of two stations in the Utah Sports Network. The other is KOAL 750 AM in Price. All of Utah's games on ESPN 700 can also be heard live on the Internet at espn700sports.com.

"We are excited to have Bill join our broadcast team as the new radio voice of Utah athletics," said Andrew Waters, general manager of Utah Sports Properties (USP). "His experience in this arena is sure to enhance our broadcast. With his afternoon show on ESPN 700 and his voice on game day, we will experience an extended reach in the marketplace."
