Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (July 18, 2010) - Keaton Hayenga twirled five shutout innings before faltering in the sixth in a 6-2 Bees loss to the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon.

Hayenga (L, 1-7) put together one of his strongest showings as a Bee, holding the Dragons to three runs on three hits in five and a third innings with a strikeout and three walks. Just one of the hits came before the sixth, an inning in which he allowed two hits and hit a batter before being lifted in favor of Mitch Hodge.

The Dragons added three more against Hodge, two of which came on 2010 second rounder Ryan LaMarre's second home run as a professional in the seventh. Hodge struck out one and walked a batter in his time on the hill.

The Bees scored their pair in the bottom of the seventh. Carlo Testa drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and advanced to third on Jake Kuebler's flyout to right. Fernando Cruz then laced a liner to right that LaMarre misplayed into a triple, chasing Dragons starter Jacob Johnson from the game. The ensuing batter, Luis Del Rosario, ripped the first pitch from reliever Ezequiel Infante into center to narrow the deficit to four, but the Bees could pull no closer.

Johnson (W, 5-6) struck out seven in six and a third innings. The righty held the Bees to two runs on two hits.

The Bees managed only three hits on the afternoon. No member of the starting lineup reached base safely more than once.

Though the Bees struggled, the numerous dogs in attendance for Bark In The Park had a blast. Fans who brought a donation of cat or dog food to the game received discounted tickets, and former Fort Madison High School star and NBA player Ryan Bowen was in attendance in support of the Des Moines County Humane Society.

The Bees will make a run at their fifth straight home series victory on Monday, when it will be Dollar Monday presented by Miller Lite at Community Field. Pick up hot dogs, Pepsi products, and popcorn for just a dollar, and general admission tickets are just two dollars. Reserve your tickets right now at GoBees.com for the final game at Community Field before the Bees depart for a six-game Eastern Division swing starting on Wednesday.
