Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) - The Lake Erie Crushers won the completion of a suspended game 5-3 and then won the regularly scheduled game 4-2 later that night against the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field.

The teams continued in the bottom of the fifth inning from the night before when Jake Rogers singled in a run for the 3-2 advantage.

Crushers designated hitter Raphael Turner then regained the lead in the sixth inning with a two-run single to left field. Lake Erie scored another run in the ninth inning on a suicide squeeze in the 5-3 victory.

In the second game, Chad Edwards started for the Evansville Otters against Josh Roberts of the Lake Erie Crushers.

Drew Davis started the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and Eddie Tisdale followed with a double to increase the lead to 2-0. Evansville countered with an RBI ground out in the bottom of the inning from Derek Wiley.

The score stayed 2-1 until the fourth inning when Raphael Turner hit a double to right field. Arden McWilliams scored on the play and Turner was thrown out trying to advance to third.

Defense played a vital role in the game for both teams. After a bases loaded walk to Derek Wiley forced in a run, Drew Davis made a lunging catch over third base to maintain the lead and snatch away extra bases.

Davis then lead off the next inning with a solo home run as Lake Erie jumped ahead 4-2. Matthew Smith pitched the final two innings to earn the save in the win for the Crushers.

Lake Erie improves to 27-20 with the pair of wins as Evansville is currently 16-30.

The teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon in the series finale at Bosse Field. The game will start at 1:05 PM CST on Prairie Farm Game Night at the ballpark.
