Bond Invited To Cap's Summer Camp

Topeka RoadRunner defenseman Chris Bond has been formally invited to attend and participate In the Washington Capitals Summer Camp, taking place from Sunday to Saturday, July 11-17th, 2010 at the Washington Capitals practice facility, Kettler Capitals IcePlex, in Arlington, VA. This will be the Capitals' principal conditioning camp for the team's current entry-level players, unsigned draft picks and invited undrafted players. Camp will consist of multiple on-ice, off-ice, and classroom sessions for six days.
RoadRunners head coach and GM Scott Langer is not surprised to see the young defenseman catch the eye of NHL scouts. "Chris is a smart, solid hockey player. He's very much a student of the game, and he has the physical tools to make a difference. On the ice, he has a world of potential, and off the ice, he's a classy kid and a great teammate." Assistant coach R.J. Enga added his praise as well. "The thing you notice about Chris from a coaches standpoint is his work ethic. He works as hard as anyone on the team at improving his game, and paying attention to the little things. He's extremely coachable and hungry to learn."
The invite did come as a surprise to Bond. "I knew they had come out to watch me a couple of times but didn't know if anything would come from it", he said. So what does a player do to prepare for such a great opportunity? "
I have just continued to work out hard and run a lot. I've also tried to get on the ice a couple of more time in the last week so that I'm ready to go right away and so i don't have to worry about any rust."
Always humble and modest, Bond added, "This is a huge honor just to be invited and I'm going to do my best to make the most of this opportunity."
In his rookie season in Topeka, the 18-year old Bond tallied 14 assists and racked up 58 PIM's in 48 games. He was fourth on the team with a solid plus/minus rating of +25. The 6'2", 205 lb. blueliner who hails from Centreville, VA figures to play a key role in the RoadRunners drive for the Robertson Cup in the 2010-11 season. "I'm really looking forward to this season. We have some unfinished business to attend to."
