Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (July 1, 2010) - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Salt Lake Bees right-handed pitcher Rich Thompson and infielder Mark Trumbo have been named to the 2010 PCL All-Star Team. Thompson and Trumbo will suit up for the 23rd annual Triple-A All-Star Game, slated for July 14th at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa., when the PCL squad takes on the International League All-Stars. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on MLB Network.

Thompson, a 25-year-old native of Hornsby, Australia, has appeared in 19 games for the Bees in 2010, owning a 1-1 record, a team-low 0.61 ERA, two saves and 30 strikeouts in 29.2 innings of relief. In 2009, he owned a 3-1 record with a 3.12 ERA in 29 games for the Bees. He also appeared in 13 games for the Angels last season, registering a 5.12 ERA. The reliever made his major league debut with the Angels on September 1, 2007 against the Texas Rangers. Thompson was originally signed by the Angels as a free agent in 2002 and two years later, was part of the silver-medal winning Australian National Baseball Team at the Athens Olympic Games.

Trumbo, a 24-year-old native of Anaheim, Calif., has appeared in 76 games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .270 with 15 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 63 RBI and two stolen bases. He leads the PCL in RBI and is the second-leading home run hitter in the league. Trumbo posted a career-high .291 average in 2009 with Double-A Arkansas, along with 35 doubles and 15 home runs. He also registered career numbers in 2008, finishing with 32 home runs and 93 RBI between Arkansas and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Trumbo was originally selected by the Angels in the 18th round of the 2004 draft.

2010 will mark the 13th showdown under the current IL vs. PCL format, as the first 10 contests pitted All-Stars selected from National League affiliates against those from the American League. The overall series is tied at 6-6.
