Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - BlueClaws SS Jonathan Villar homered and Josh Zeid got the final four outs in a 5-5, 10-inning tie in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Flour Field in Greenville.

Villar, 19, had hit just two home runs as a pro, with one coming on June 10th, his only home run of 2010. His All-Star Game blast was a 3rd inning solo blast off of Asheville reliever Alan DeRatt.

Zeid came into the game in the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs and nobody on and got the last out of that inning and pitched a scoreless 10th to earn the "tie." He struck out two and hit a batter.

The Southern Division All-Stars scored four runs in the second inning after Greensboro's Kyle Skipworth hit a two-run first-inning blast for the Northern Division All-Stars.

The North was able to take the lead in the 4th when Villar reached on an error to score Kannapolis' Daniel Wagner. But the South tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

That was the last run scored in the game.

The BlueClaws, who won the South Atlantic League Northern Division First-Half Championship, had four players selected, but left-handed pitcher Nick Hernandez and second baseman Jeremy Barnes could not participate due to injury.

The BlueClaws open the second half on Thursday at Delmarva. They return home on Tuesday, June 29th for a five-game homestand which includes an autograph signing with Hall of Famer Andre Dawson on July 1st and fireworks shows on July 2nd and 3rd.
