Senators No-Hit Altoona in Game 2 of Doubleheader
June 10, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
On Thursday night in Altoona, the Harrisburg Senators snapped their five-game losing streak with a combined no-hitter in game two of the doubleheader winning 1-0. Chuck James, Cole Kimball and Zech Zinicola combined to hold Altoona hitless allowing just a single walk and combining to strike out 11 batters.
The only other no-hitter for the Senators came on April 28, 2003 when Seung Song no-hit Erie on City Island.
The Sens scored the only run they would need with three two-out hits in the fifth inning. Michael Martinez and Danny Espinosa singled, then Jesus Valdez drove in Martinez with the Sens third straight single giving them a 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile James walked Chase d'Arnaud to lead off the game but he was immediately erased as part of a double play. With two outs in the second, Hector Gimenez lined out to center field with Edgardo Baez making the catch knee high. James then struck out six straight hitters. In the fifth, his last inning of work, he got a come backer for the first out, a pop out to short stop for the second out and then he struck out Gimenez to end the fifth.
Kimball came on in the sixth and retired Alex Presley on a long drive to center, then he struck out both Miles Durham and pinch-hitter Jim Negrych.
In the seventh, Zinicola breezed through the top three in Altoona's order striking out d'Arnaud and Gorkys Hernandez before retiring Josh Harrison on a ground out to first base.
It is the first no-hitter in the Eastern League since Thad Weber of the SeaWolves no-hit Akron last August 22nd. It's the first combined no-hitter since Dave Crouthers, Andy Mitchell, and Jacobo Sequea combined for Bowie to no-hit the Curve on 8/19/04.
James runs his record to 3-0 with the Senators while Rudy Owens, the Curve starter, falls to 6-3. Zinicola notches his fifth save of the year with the perfect seventh.
The Sens dropped game one 3-2 to the Curve which ran their losing streak to five games, before they snapped it with the win in game two.
Harrisburg returns home for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday night against Bowie at 7:00pm. Don't forget that Sunday night is a special start time of 6:00pm.
