Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves scored all the runs they'd need off Jeremy Toole in the first three innings, handing the Augusta GreenJackets a 4-3 loss on Wednesday night from Rome.

The Braves scored on a Mycal Jones groundout in the first and extended the lead by two more runs in the second on a Christian Bethancourt run-scoring double and a Jace Whitmer RBI single. Jones greeted Toole with a solo home run with one out in the third to put Rome up 4-0.

Rome starter Arodys Vizcaino stymied the GreenJackets through five scoreless innings of three-hit baseball. Vizcaino (8-3) improved his league-leading win total with three strikeouts and only allowed back-to-back hits in the fifth.

Augusta stranded ten runners in the contest, most of them against a Rome bullpen that saw four walks and a hit batsman from Wilton Estevez. The Jackets loaded the bases with no one out in the sixth and got their lone run of the threat on a double play ball in the inning. Again they were loaded in the seventh with one out before reliever Andrew Wilson got the last two outs to end the threat.

The GreenJackets had a chance in the ninth off Thomas Berryhill. Daniel Cook led off the ninth with a single and scored on Hector Sanchez's one-out, pinch-hit double to left-center. With two outs, Ryan Lollis singled to put the tying runs on the bases but Ryan Cavan grounded out to end the game.

Toole (2-1) improved over the final three innings of his six-inning stint in the loss. He got out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play ball in the fifth and set Rome down in order in the fourth and sixth innings. Toole allowed four runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Berryhill survived the ninth to earn his second save of the year for the Braves.

With the series knotted at a game apiece, the GreenJackets send Kyle Vazquez (4-2, 3.19) to the bump on Thursday to face lefty Brett DeVall (2-2, 2.81). First pitch from Rome will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 2:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
