Portland Winterhawks News Release

The first round of the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft will take place on Friday, June 25, and the Portland Winterhawks are inviting fans to join them at a draft party to see where the team's players get selected.

The Winterhawks will be hosting a draft party at the Buffalo Wild Wings located at 327 SW Morrison St. in downtown Portland. The festivities will begin at 3 p.m., with the draft telecast beginning at 4 p.m. The event will feature special Winterhawks guests, prizes, jersey auctions and much more. The event will include appearances by long-time play-by-play announcer Dean "Scooter" Vrooman, current radio play-by-play announcer Andy Kemper, radio analyst Todd Vrooman and former public address announcer Dan Folwick.

Buffalo Wild Wings will have a number of food and drink specials for Winterhawks fans during the event, including appetizers such as mozzarella sticks, chips & salsa, onion rings, fries and other items at $3 apiece.

In the final NHL Central Scouting draft rankings, the Winterhawks had six players listed, including Ryan Johansen 10th and Nino Niederreiter 12th among North American skaters.

"With two players ranked in the top-15 by NHL Central Scouting and six players ranked overall, the NHL Draft will be a very exciting time for the Winterhawks and our fans," said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. "It's another sign of how far we've come, and we're looking forward to having our fans join us for this exciting night."

The Winterhawks haven't had a player taken in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft since 2003, when defenseman Braydon Coburn was taken eighth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. If the Winterhawks have two players taken in the first round, it will mark the first time since 1987 the team will have had two first round picks.

The Winterhawks have had 21 players taken in the first round of the NHL Draft in their history, and 108 players selected overall. Last season defenseman Brett Ponich was taken in the second round, 48th overall, by the St. Louis Blues.

Season tickets for the 2010-11 season are on sale now. Prices start at just $10.50 per game while a limited number of front row glass seats are available at only $23.50 per game. Contact the Winterhawks at 503-236-HAWK or seats@winterhawks.com to secure your seat for all 36 home games.
