For the second time in four days the Hagerstown Suns (24-18) swept Friday's doubleheader, winning two games on the road against the Delmarva Shorebirds (18-24), winning the first contest 10-1 and the second 9-2 for six straight victories.

In game one with Delmarva up 1-0, the Suns responded strongly against Shorebirds starter Luis Noel (0-1). Hagerstown put up five runs in the top of the fourth, led by a two-run double by J.R. Higley and a subsequent RBI triple by Sandy Leon. Never again did Delmarva have a lead in either game of the doubleheader, which included the makeup game from a rainout in Hagerstown on April 26th.

The Suns secured the game with a four-run sixth inning, with a Francisco Soriano RBI single and a Justin Bloxom RBI double.

Paul Demny (2-1) pitched just the third complete game in the South Atlantic League this season, earning his second win with seven innings thrown, allowing one run and striking out six.

Next game, Hagerstown took an early 1-0 lead off a Bloxom RBI single against Delmarva's Bobby Bundy (0-1).

In the top of the second, the Suns hitting exploded for seven runs, with all scoring with two outs. After Dan Lyons walked with runners on all bags, Steven Souza hit a bases-clearing double off the top of the fence for three RBI. After Bloxom walked and Destin Hood hit an RBI single, J.P. Ramirez hit a two-run triple to deep center to give Hagerstown an 8-0 lead.

T.J. Baxter hit the only home run of the doubleheader, getting a solo shot for the Shorebirds in the fifth inning.

Game two saw the return of Suns starter Josh Smoker after two weeks on the disabled list. He pitched four and two-thirds, giving up two runs and striking out five. He left during the fifth to get a no decision. His replacement, Shane Erb (2-1), earned the win getting five outs with two gone on strikes. Wanel Vasquez pitched a scoreless seventh to complete the sweep.

With the wins, Hagerstown is guaranteed a series victory over Delmarva with a 3-0 lead. Game four of the set will be on Saturday night at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
