Springfield Cardinals News Release

Little Rock, AR - The Cardinals came out swinging on Mother's Day plating two runs in the top of the first inning against the Arkansas Travelers. Adron Chambers led off the game with a double and Pete Kozma followed with an RBI double to score Chambers. Steven Hill would then single Kozma home to make the Springfield lead 2-0.

Cardinals' starter David Kopp got off to a fast start Sunday by not allowing a run until the third inning. Clay Fuller led off the 3rd with a double down the left field line, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and would eventually score on an RBI ground out by Andrew Romine to the Cardinals lead in half, 2-1.

Springfield's offense would be quiet against Travs' starter Michael Anton until the 6th when Steven Hill blasted a solo home run, his 4th of the season, to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.

David Kopp was outstanding for the Cardinals on Sunday as he allowed just one run on three hits with three strikeouts over a season high seven innings of work. Casey Mulligan would appear out of the bullpen in the bottom of the 8th and allowed a one out single before throwing a wild pitch putting a runner at second. After a strikeout, Mulligan allowed an RBI double to Jeremy Moore to bring the Travs within a run, 3-2. Eduardo Sanchez would get the final out of the inning getting Andrew Romine to fly out to right.

Eduardo Sanchez would allow a lead off 9th inning single, but would strike out the side from there to record his 6th save and preserve the win for David Kopp.

Springfield will continue their four game series against the Arkansas Travelers Monday night. For game three against the Travs, the Cardinals will send right hander Shaun Garceau (0-5) to the mound against right hander Tim Kiely (2-3) of Arkansas.

The Cardinals will return home on May 13th for an eight game homestand against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and Arkansas Travelers. For ticket information please visit the Hammons Field Ticket Office, online at springfieldcardinals.com or call (417) 863-2143. Escape to Cardinals Baseball!
