Toledo Mud Hens News Release
(TOLEDO, OH) - The Toledo Mud Hens are pleased to announce that Sunday, May 16th will be "Frank Gilhooley Day" at Fifth Third Field as the Hens take on the Indianapolis Indians at 2:10 pm.
The team will be holding a special pre-game on-field ceremony from 1:30-2:00 pm to pay tribute to Frank's distinguished broadcasting career in Toledo. Special guests and local media celebrities will be at the park to share stories and celebrate with Frank.
International League President, Randy Mobley will be on hand to present Frank with a special award from the League to recognize how Frank has enhanced the baseball fan's experience in Northwest Ohio.
Gilhooley has over 50 years of experience in television and radio and has been a part of the Mud Hens radio broadcasts since 1987.
Toledo Mud Hens President/General Manager Joe Napoli said, "Frank Gilhooley's name is synonymous with the following descriptors: professionalism, stewardship, friendship, storyteller, man's man, husband, father, grandfather, athlete, broadcaster and Irishman, just to name a few. He is cherished and loved in more ways and by so many people that there are too many to count. Oh, and rumor has that he has an occasional Budweiser...so all-in-all a great guy."
Gilhooley previously served as the sports director at WTVG-TV 13 along with announcing several Ohio State football games. He also has the distinction of playing basketball for the legendary Toledo Jeeps, when Gilhooley traveled with the Harlem Globetrotters for two years as a member of the opposing team.
A native of Toledo, Gilhooley played both baseball and basketball at the University of Notre Dame. Gilhooley's father, Frank Sr., played with the New York Yankees from 1913-18 and was a teammate of legendary slugger Babe Ruth with the Boston Red Sox in 1919.
For tickets to the game on Sunday, May 16 at 2:10 pm, fans can call (419) 725-HENS (4367) or go to www.mudhens.com.
