Jupiter Hits, Gets Hit In Victory

April 22, 2010 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

It always hurts to lose, but for a few Hammerheads, tonight's win may not feel too great tomorrow morning either.

Despite being outhit 6-5 by St. Lucie, Jupiter emerged with a 3-0 win. In fact, the Hammerheads were up 2-0 long before they got their first hit of the game. But with that pleasure came a number of painful moments.

Mets starter Scott Moviel (0-2) led off the 2nd inning by getting a flyout. But from there, he issued two consecutive walks, and then had a pitch go wild, hitting Jupiter's Isaac Galloway in the head. After taking a few minutes with the trainer, Galloway took his base, loading them up. In stepped catcher Robert Taylor, but Moviel plunked him too, putting the game's first run on the board. Shortstop Chris Wade then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, giving Jupiter (7-6) two runs without getting a hit.

That would be all the runs the Hammerheads would need, as a quartet of pitchers combined to keep the Mets (5-8) scoreless. Starter Robert Bono (1-1) struck out three in five innings, spreading out five hits and a walk. The rehabbing Marlins reliever Brian Sanches also struck out three, but needed only two innings to do so. The only baserunner Sanches allowed was a hit batter.

Shutting the game down in the late innings were Jupiter's closing duo of Steve Cishek and Corey Madden. Cishek, whose 4 saves leads the team, pitched a scoreless 8th, while Madden collected his second save of the year to close out the game.

For the Mets, a pitching change didn't offer much relief, at least for Jupiter's batters. After enduring those two hit-by-pitches in Moviel's six innings, the Hammerheads were hit twice more in the last two innings. That included Galloway enduring yet another plunking. He'll have a chance to catch the Florida State League's leader, former teammate Brett Carroll, who picked up 5 HBPs in his early season rehab stint with Jupiter.
