Kernels offense strikes early and often in 14-6 rout of Cougars

Geneva, IL - The Cedar Rapids Kernels picked up their first road win of the season with a 14-6 rout of the Kane County Cougars at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, IL on Saturday night. Casey Haerther went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI and Randal Grichuk was 3-6 with a double, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Cedar Rapids scored four runs in the second, five runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth and two runs in the eighth. They also pounded out a season high 15 hits.
Eric Oliver hit the first home run for the Kernels in 2010, a two run shot in the second inning and finished the game 3-4 with 2 runs scored and Mike Trout extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 1-3 with 2 RBI and drew three walks.
Kyle Hurst (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Tyler Kehrer, striking out four over 3.1 innings of work. Kehrer was lifted after 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and issuing four walks. Kane County starter Justin Marks (0-1) allowed nine runs on six hits over 3.1 innings in taking the loss. Kent Walton was 1-4 with 3 RBI and Rashun Dixon was 2-5 with a triple and 2 RBI.
