Garcia Placed On DL; Van Benschoten Called Up To Join Thunder

(TRENTON NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees have placed RHP Christian Garcia on the disabled list and added John Van Benschoten from the GCL to join active roster.
Garcia, who was taken out of his Opening Day start on April 8, goes on the DL with a torn ligament in his right elbow.
Van Benschoten joins the Thunder from the GCL Yankees. He was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 2001 June Draft. He made his Major League debut on August 18, 2004 and has a career record of 2-13 with a 9.20 ERA in 26 games with the Pirates, which span over three seasons.
The Thunder welcome in the Akron Aeros to Waterfront Park for the first of a three game series tonight at 7:05. RHP DJ Mitchell (0-0, 0.00) faces LHP Ryan Edell (0-0, 0.00).
