Nailers Return For 19th Season In Wheeling

Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the AA affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins have announced they are excited to return for their 19th season of professional hockey in the ECHL in 2010-2011.
Amidst speculation over the past few months that the team may not be back in Wheeling, and just a few weeks after the Johnstown Chiefs announced they will not return to Johnstown after this season, this announcement signals a great day for hockey in the city of Wheeling.
"As our fans and the leaders of this community know, we have been focused on keeping hockey in the Valley, and we are so excited to be here today announcing that we are able to do that," said owner Rob Brooks.
City Manager Bob Herron and Executive Director of WesBanco Arena Denny McGruder both praised the deal to keep the Nailers in Wheeling. "The Nailers are an important asset for Wheeling, and we are extremely happy that Rob and Jim Brooks are making this commitment to WesBanco Arena and the city of Wheeling," Herron said. McGruder added, "This is great news for Wheeling and WesBanco Arena, I see this as a great opportunity for the people of this community to show their support for the Nailers. We've been given a second chance on life and our fans and community now have a great chance to bond together and make this work."
The Wheeling Nailers also announced they will be lending a hand to another city that is also near and dear in the hearts of the Brooks brothers, as they have arranged to play a small portion of their games at the Cambria County War Memorial Coliseum in Johnstown, PA. Rob and Jim Brooks grew up less than 1 hour from Johnstown, PA.
While the majority of the Nailers games will be played in Wheeling, the Nailers bring new life to the strong hockey history of Johnstown and will help them fill the void left with the Chiefs departure.
"The key for Rob and I was being able to keep hockey in Wheeling, and now with less games in Wheeling we hope the lower priced season ticket packages will become even more affordable for our fans and at the same time allow for a better game schedule for families and individuals in our community to attend more regularly," added Jim Brooks.
