Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired goaltender Josh Johnson from the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL for future considerations. In a separate transaction, goaltender Matt Dalton was recalled to the Boston Bruins. In other transactions announced today, the Royals (i) loaned forward Ben Gordon to the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL; (ii) moved defenseman Rob LaLonde from the 7-Day Injured Reserve to the 21-Day IR; and (iii) moved goaltender Andrew Engelage from the 3-Day Injured Reserve to the 7-Day Injured Reserve.

Johnson (6'0) (170) (26), a third year pro from Esko, Minnesota, was acquired by the Condors from the Gwinnett Gladiators on December 9, 2009, and played in two games for Bakersfield with his lone decision being a win on December 27 over the Ontario Reign. Prior to being traded to Bakersfield, Johnson played in three games for the Gladiators, where he compiled a record of 2-1-0 with a 2.67 goals against average and a.902 save percentage. Prior to turning pro, Johnson played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he compiled an overall record of 22-20-4 with a 2.71 goals against average and a.905 save percentage. While with the Bulldogs, he was part of the 2004 team that made it to the semi-finals of the NCAA's Frozen Four tournament before being eliminated by the University of Denver. Johnson began his pro career in 2007-08 with the South Carolina Stingrays where he went 23-13-1 (2.80/.908) in thirty-eight regular season games and was twice named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week. He was an instrumental part of the Stingrays' first round playoff win over Augusta as the Stingrays advanced to the American Conference Finals prior to being eliminated by the eventual Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones. In 2008-09, Johnson started the season with South Carolina prior to being acquired by the Gladiators where he went 12-10-1 (3.22/.888) in twenty-five regular season games.

The Boston Bruins originally assigned Dalton to the Royals from the Providence Bruins on November 10, 2009. Since that time, he has played thirty-six games with the Royals-the last twenty-one in a row. In those games, he has compiled a record of 16-18-0-2 with a 3.54 goals against average and a.905 save percentage. This marks the first career call up to the NHL for Dalton, who signed with the Bruins as a free agent in April of 2009. For Gordon, this is his fourth trip to the AHL-and his second to the Heat. In ten total AHL games this year, Gordon has scored two goals and assisted on three others (five points). Gordon leads the Royals in scoring with fifty-six points (21g-35a) in forty-five games.

The Royals take the ice again tomorrow night (February 26, 2010 @ 7:05 pm) when the Wheeling Nailers travel to the Sovereign Center. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:35 pm.
