Thunder's Andrew Perugini Named ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Andrew Perugini has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 8-14.

The fifth goaltender overall and third this season to receive the award in Thunder history, Perugini collects the honor for the second time in his career (also for week of Feb. 23-March 1, 2009) after going 2-0-0 with a shutout, 58 saves, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of.967.

Perugini, 21, stopped all 33 shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season (fourth in his career) in a 5-0 win at home vs. Ontario on Feb. 12.

Until a goal by Ontario's Mike Egener in the third period on Feb. 13 in a 3-2 Thunder win, Perugini had a shutout streak of 178:20, spanning three games that broke Glenn Fisher's previous mark set in 2007-08 (153:48).

The King City, Ontario native is 14-8-3 with two shutouts, a 2.53 goals-against average and a.921 save percentage in 27 games this season with Stockton. Perugini's.921 save percentage is tied for first in the ECHL with teammate Bryan Pitton, who is currently with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. He also ranks second in the league with a 2.53 goals-against average.

As a rookie, Perugini appeared in 37 games with Stockton in 2008-09 going 21-13-3 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of.908.

He also appeared in one Kelly Cup Playoff game in 2009, stopping 17 of 19 shots in 36 minutes of duty before leaving the game early due to injury.

Perugini is 0-3-1 with a goals-against average of 4.04 and a save percentage of.874 in four American Hockey League games this season with Springfield.

Runners Up: Robert Mayer, Cincinnati (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA,.957 save pct.), David Brown, Gwinnett (2-1-0, 2.00,.942 save pct.) and Jordan Pearce, Toledo (1-1-0, 1.50 GAA,.960 save pct.).

The Thunder returns to play on Friday, February 19 on the road for a significant showdown between first and second place in the Pacific Division, facing the Bakersfield Condors (six points ahead of the Thunder), starting at 7:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.
