Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Corey Quirk and Matt Jones each scored two goals and Alex Stalock made 33 saves as the Worcester Sharks defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 6-1, Friday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Anton Klementyev scored the Sound Tigers only goal.

Worcester outshot Bridgeport 49-34 in the game. Much of the first period was scoreless as the teams exchanged chances. Nathan Lawson made an impressive pad save on a breakaway by T.J. Trevelyan while Stalock stopped Tomas Marcinko and Ryan Kinasewich on separate scoring chances.

Quirk scored the only goal of the first period with 2:46 remaining. After Lawson made a save on an initial shot by Jones, Quirk came charging in and slipped the rebound through Lawson's legs for his fourth goal of the year.

Klementyev scored his first AHL goal at the 9:14 mark of the second period. Greg Mauldin led a rush up the ice and dropped a pass back to Kinasewich who fired a shot on goal. Stalock made the save but Klementyev was crashing the net and put the rebound into the top of the goal to tie the game for Bridgeport.

The Sharks grabbed the lead with 3:28 left in the second period. Trevelyan slid a pass through the crease to Ben Ferriero who re-directed it into the open side of the goal for his 17th tally of the season.

Worcester scored four unanswered goals in the third period to take control of the game. Jones made it 3-1 at the 3:35 mark, deflecting a shot by Mike Moore past Lawson who was screened on the play. Five minutes later, Jones took a pass from Joe Loprieno and snapped a shot from the face-off circle into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year.

Quirk scored his second goal of the game with 3:54 left, pounding a rebound through Lawson's legs. Brandon Mashinter closed the scoring with 2:29 remaining, blasting a shot past Lawson to tally his 15th goal of the season.

"We just need to put this game behind us," Sound Tigers forward Sean Bentivoglio said. "We still have six games in the next week."
