Connecticut Whale News Release

Providence, RI - Jordan Knackstedt had a goal and three assists, and Mikko Lehtonen scored two goals, to lead the Providence Bruins to a 7-1 win over the Harftford Wolf Pack Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence.

Zach Hamill, Brad Marchand and Trent Whitfield added two assists each for the Bruins.

Evgeny Grachev scored the only Wolf Pack goal in the loss, which snapped a streak of three straight games with at least a standings point (2-0-1-0) for the Pack.

Jeff Penner opened the scoring for Providence at 6:40 of the first period, sailing a shot from the right point past Chad Johnson, who was making his first start in net for Hartford since returning from the New York Rangers.

Lehtonen then made it 2-0 with his first of the game at 15:10. Lehtonen broke past Wolf Pack defenseman Jared Nightingale after Nightingale fumbled the puck, and snapped a shot into the top corner on the glove side.

Grachev cut the lead in half with a power-play goal at 2:22 of the second, scoring from the right side of the crease after Brodie Dupont deflected the puck to him. Nigel Williams started the play with a shot from the left point.

Only 1:03 later, though, the Bruins restored the two-goal margin with a goal by Andrew Bodnarchuk, whose shot from the blue line hit Hartford defenseman David Urquhart and deflected past Johnson.

Lehtonen made it 4-1 at 6:24, only 2:59 after Bodnarchuk's goal, when, stationed to Johnson's left, he buried a cross-slot feed from Whitfield.

The Bruins completed the scoring with a three-goal burst in the final 6:00 of the third period, all on point-blank shots..

Knackstedt made it 5-1 at the 14-minute mark, when he was set up alone in front by Whitfield. Just 17 seconds thereafter, Knackstedt found Levi Nelson in the slot for an uncontested opportunity, and then John Lammers scored Providence's seventh goal on a power play at 19:06. Hamill dropped the puck to Lammers at the left side of the slot, after Knackstedt had passed to Hamill at the right edge of the crease.

Dany Sabourin made 25 saves to get the win in the Bruin net, and Johnson allowed seven goals on 35 shots for the Wolf Pack.

The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 25-21-3-4. At 57 points, the Pack are two points ahead of Bridgeport and the Bruins for fifth place in the Atlantic Division.

The Wolf Pack return to action on home ice at the XL Center Saturday night, taking on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 PM.
