First-Place Bulldogs Continue To Roll With Two North Division Tilts This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will look to extend their lead in the Western Conference and North Division standings with two games against divisional rivals this week. The 'Dogs will take to the ice on Friday, February 12th for a 7:30 PM EST matchup against the Lake Erie Monsters (American Hockey League affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. One night later on Saturday, February 13th, the Bulldogs will return home to host the Abbotsford Heat (American Hockey League affiliate of the Calgary Flames) at 7:00 PM EST for Pink in the Rink night at Copps Coliseum. Proceeds from Saturday's game will go to Breast Cancer Support Services.

Last week, the Bulldogs extended their current winning streak to seven games with three more victories. The 'Dogs began the week by defeating the San Antonio Rampage (American Hockey League affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes) 4-0 on Wednesday, February 3rd at Copps Coliseum. Three of Hamilton's four goals were scored on the power play. The Bulldogs then visited the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Friday, February 5th to take on the Americans (American Hockey League affiliate of the Florida Panthers). Tom Pyatt scored a hat trick to lead the 'Dogs to a 5-2 win over the Amerks. One night later on Saturday, February 6th, Hamilton skated past the Toronto Marlies 2-1 at Ricoh Coliseum in a low scoring affair that saw the visiting Bulldogs set a new franchise record by allowing just 12 shots on net throughout the entire game.

PINK IN THE RINK

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced they will host their annual "Pink in the Rink" night at Copps Coliseum on Saturday, February 13th when the team hosts the Abbotsford Heat for a 7:00 p.m. game. Tickets to see the Western Conference leading Bulldogs play on February 13th can be purchased for $15 through Breast Cancer Support Services by calling 905-634-2333. All net proceeds will be going to Breast Cancer Support Services. All women in attendance will be given flowers and chocolates while the first 3,000 fans through the gates will be given pink rally towels. There will also be a special performance by Juno Award Nominee and recording artist Matt Dusk during an intermission.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

- The Bulldogs would like to congratulate RW Mike Glumac and his wife Melissa on the birth of their son, Michael Elija Glumac, who was born on Saturday, January 23rd.

- The Bulldogs are currently riding a seven game winning streak - their longest since the 2002-2003 season when the team won nine games in a row.

- In their latest victory, a 2-1 win over the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, February 6th, the Bulldogs set a franchise record by allowing just 12 shots on goal throughout the entire game.

- Hamilton's 5-0 victory over the Rockford IceHogs on Wednesday, January 27th was the team's sixth road shutout this season, setting a new franchise mark for most shutouts on the road in one season.

- Bulldogs D Yannick Weber has been named to Switzerland's Men's Ice Hockey Team for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

- The Montreal Canadiens recalled forwards Brock Trotter, Ryan White, and David Desharnais earlier this week. The trio has combined to score 53 goals, 68 assists and 121 points to go along with a +39 rating and 155 penalty minutes this season for the Bulldogs.

- The Bulldogs earned their 500th regular season victory with a 3-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday, November 28th

- There are currently nine players who have suited up for the Bulldogs this season that are listed on the Montreal Canadiens' roster. Forwards Matt D'Agostini, Mathieu Darche, David Desharnais, Sergei Kostitsyn, Ben Maxwell, Benoit Pouliot, Brock Trotter, Ryan White and defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron have all skated in at least three games with the Bulldogs this season, and are becoming fixtures in the Habs' lineup.

- Hamilton's 75 points are currently 10 more than any other team in the Western Conference.

- Hamilton's 0.708 points percentage is currently second best in the AHL.

- With the recent roster moves between Hamilton and the Montreal Canadiens, Bulldogs rookie D P.K. Subban has moved into 1st place on the team's scoring race for active players with 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points so far on the year. The Rexdale, Ontario native is currently on a three game point streak, scoring one goal and five assists for six points during that span. Subban has also registered 10 points (2-8-10) in his last seven contests. This offensive surge has moved Subban up to 3rd spot in the AHL's rookie scoring race. Subban's +29 rating puts him in 3rd place in the league in that category.

- Hamilton LW Tom Pyatt scored his first career hat trick in the Bulldogs' 5-2 win over the Rochester Americans on Friday, February 5th. Pyatt also registered an assist for his second four-point game of the season. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native currently ranks 2nd on the team in scoring with 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points in 36 games this year.

- Bulldogs RW Mike Glumac is currenlty on a three game point streak that has seen the former Miami RedHawk score four goals and one assist for five points. Glumac now has 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points on the year.

Forwards Mikhail Grabovski, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Sergei Kostitsyn will represent Belerus. D Jan Hejda and C Tomas Plekanec will suit up for the Czech Republic. Minnesota Wild F Antti Miettinen will wear the blue and white for Team Finland. G Jaroslav Halak and F Marcel Hossa will wear their national colours for Slovakia. Stalwart D Mike Komisarek and Vezina Trophy winner G Tim Thomas will take to the ice for the United States.

Montreal G Jaroslav Halak added three more notches to his victory column last week with two 45-save performances in wins over Vancouver (Feb. 2) and Boston (Feb. 4) to go along with an 18-save victory over the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins (Feb. 6)

Edmonton forward Jean-Francois Jacques scored a goal and an assist while finishing +2 in a 4-2 win over Carolina (Feb. 1) then registered another helper as the Oilers fell 4-2 to the Minnesota Wild (Feb. 4)

Montreal forward Sergei Kostitsyn scored one goal and one assist to go along with a +2 rating as the Canadiens defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 (Feb. 2) and then put up another helper in the Habs' 3-2 shootout victory over the Boston Bruins (Feb. 4)

Toronto D Francois Beauchemin potted a goal in the Leafs' 3-0 shutout victory over the New Jersey Devils (Feb. 2)

Montreal forward Benoit Pouliot dished out two helpers in the Canadiens' 3-2 win over Vancouver (Feb. 2)

Columbus RW Raffi Torres scored in the Blue Jackets' 4-0 win over Buffalo (Feb. 6)

Bosoton RW Michael Ryder had one assist in the Bruins' 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal (Feb. 4) and scored a goal in yet another 3-2 shootout loss, this time to the Vancouver Canucks (Feb. 6)

Montreal C Tomas Plekanec scored the game winning goal while finishing +2 in the Habs' 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks (Feb. 2) and scored a goal and a helper as the Canadiens defeated the Penguins 5-3 (Feb. 6)

Washington forward Jason Chimera scored a goal as the Capitals defeated the Atlanta Thrashers 5-2 (Feb. 5)

Detroit RW Dan Cleary had a goal and was +1 as the Red Wings beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2 (Feb. 2) then picked up an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Kings (Feb. 6)

Anaheim forward Kyle Chipchura scored the game winning goal as the Ducks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 (Feb. 3)

Montreal forward Maxim Lapierre found the back of the net in the Habs' 3-2 win over Vancouver (Feb. 2)

Minnesota forward Antti Miettinen scored a goal as the Wild beat the Oilers 4-2 (Feb. 4)

Montreal LW Mathieu Darche had an assist and was +1 as the Canadiens defeated the Canucks 3-2 (Feb. 2) then notched the game winning goal and was +2 in a 5-3 win over Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins (Feb. 6)

Edmonton G Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers made 33 saves and got the shutout, backstopping the Oilers to a slim 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers (Feb. 3)
