Someone woke up the Buffalo Stampede. And they're looking for - and finding - victories. As the Stamps took the court at PEPS Saturday night against the Quebec Kebs, the roster was different from their first meeting in Quebec - new teammates, a new coaching staff, and a new attitude. Thanks to Kevin Ross' 24 points and 12 rebounds, Buffalo not only defeated Quebec 119-103, but in doing so, won their third game of the season and second game in a row. Corey Herring added 20 points, while Greg gamble dished out eight team-leading assists.
After the emotional victory, the Stampede had to get to Halifax the next day for a Sunday afternoon tilt with the Halifax Rainmen. Despite a gritty effort by the Stampede, they fell 111-90, ending their short two-game winning streak. Andy Robinson led all scorers with 29 points, while Greg Gamble had a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

While Buffalo roamed the Metro Centre Sunday afternoon, it was the Halifax Rainmen who did the stampeding to a convincing 111-90 victory. Although Buffalo started out with a 28-25 first-quarter lead, the Rainmen took control after that. Adris DeLeon led the way with 17 points. Tony Bennett, 16 points, and Eric Crookshank, with 15 points and 15 rebounds, were right behind him. Desmond Ferguson chipped in with 13. Gary Ervin had 7 assists on the night. With the win, Halifax cements their hold on second place in the standings.

The 2007-08 Quad Cities River Hawks set a PBL record for most points scored in a regular season, with 2,346 points and a 117.3 points-per-game average. At the rate Lawton-Fort Sill is going, that record is about to be obliterated, as the Cavs have averaged 122.4 points per game in their first seven PBL contests. With their third 140+ scoring game of the season, the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry pummeled the Maryland GreenHawks 161-95. The Cavs took an early lead in the first quarter of the game. Tim Ellis scored the first points of the game and led the Cavs in points at the end of the quarter with 10. DeAnthony Bowden was fouled with 10:01 left and was flipped into the chairs at the baseline. The second quarter was dominated by Rashad Woods. Woods scored 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Woods stole the ball and passed to Shaun Fountain who passed to Eddie Smith who passed back to Woods who then made a beautiful three point shot. The quarter ended with a final score of 72-41 in favor of the Cavs. In the third quarter Bowden scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. The Cavs scored 20 assists in the third quarter alone. The fourth quarter was similar to the third. Jamaal Davis reached 16 points and 12 rebounds in the fourth to earn the only double double of the game.

In the Millrats' home opener, they defeated Vermont. Now, returning the favor, the Millrats and Frost Heaves battled on a Tuesday night in Barre, with the Millrats eventually falling 124-121 in double-overtime. With barely seconds left in the second overtime period, Manchester's David Cooper attempted a final three pointer as time was winding down, but it fell harmlessly off the rim. Although Manchester hit their first five shots of the game for an 11-2 start, Vermont came back and the game was tied 57-57 at halftime. Eventually that became a 107-107 tie at the end of regulation. In the first overtime period, the Millrats built a 115-110 lead with 1:42 remaining. But again Vermont refused to quit and tied the game at 115-115 all to send the game to a second overtime. Eric Gilchrese scored 28 points to lead Manchester in scoring, while Dwight Brewington added 23 points.

As much as the Maryland GreenHawks wanted to take a road victory Thursday night in the Great Plains Coliseum, it was not to be. Despite 29 team-high points from Lamar Castile, the GreenHawks were grounded by the Cavalry 161-95, with 161 points being the most tallies any PBL Maryland team has ever allowed an opponent to score. Harvey Thomas (22 pts) and Byron Mouton (17 pts) also scored in double figures for the Rockville crew and new head coach Chad Warren.

When the Kebs opened the season with a 115-100 win over the Buffalo Stampede, things looked solid for the team from la belle province. But after that victory, the Kebs sank into an extended losing streak - which was extended when the Buffalo Stampede took a 119-103 victory over the Kebs Saturday night at PEPS. "This was our worst game of the year," said Kebs head coach Alejandro Hasbani. Although the Kebs trailed by four points in the half, thanks to 20 first-half points from Jeremy Bell and 11 first-half points from Samuel Audet-Sow, the Kebs ran out of gas in the third and fourth quarters. Bell finished with 24 points, while Samuel Audet-Sow earned 18 points and Jean-Philippe Morin garnered 15 points off the bench.

Only two teams in PBL history have ever defeated the Rochester Razorsharks on Les Harrison Court in Blue Cross Arena. The Manchester Millrats took a playoff victory over the Sharks last season, and the Vermont Frost Heaves - who defeated the Sharks in a regular-season matchup last year - became the first team in PBL history to garner two regular season road victories over the defending PBL champions. The Frost Heaves snagged a 105-99 win over the Sharks, as a combination of poor shooting and injuries foiled the Sharks' chances for another home win. Keith Friel led the Sharks with 16 points, but was an uncharacteristic 2-for-13 from 3-point range. With 5,326 fans in attendance, the Rochester RazorSharks' comeback attempt was thwarted as Vermont's Troy Jackson scored 18 second half points to lead the Frost Heaves to their second win of the season 105-99.Lincoln Smith added 13 points, while Jerice Crouch and Eric Walton had 10 points apiece.

What's the best way to stop a four-game winless streak? If you're the Vermont Frost Heaves, one definite solution is to battle your New England rivals, the Manchester Millrats, at the Frost Heaves' Barre home opener - to a 124-121 victory in double-overtime, only the second time in PBL history that a game necessitated two extra periods to decide a winner. January 5, 2008 was the last time two PBL teams met in a double-overtime contest, the Rockford Fury beat the Dallas Defenders 109-108. The Frost Heaves built a 91-81 at the end of three quarters, but ice cold shooting in the fourth quarter by the Heaves allowed Manchester to get back in the game. In the first overtime, Vermont's Troy Jackson tied the game back up with a 3 point shot with 13 seconds to play. Troy then proceeded to sink a pair of 3-pointers in the second overtime to seal the win. The victory was not only the first for Vermont on the season, it was also the first pro victory for new Frost Heaves head coach Joe Salerno. Troy Jackson led the Frost Heaves in scoring with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Marshall Brown added 18 points and Aaron Cook notched 16 points.
Next it was a Saturday night road game in Rochester, where the Frost Heaves are one of a scant few franchises to actually beat the Razorsharks at Blue Cross Arena. And on Saturday night, the Heaves zipped to a 10-0 early lead, and held on to take a 105-99 upset triumph over the Razorsharks. Troy Jackson scored a team-high 34 points in the victory; while Ross Demasi had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Austin added 20 points, while Jawan Bailey had 10 boards and two blocked shots. Dwuan Rice dished out nine assists.
